The direction of both Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton maintain a consistent gritty and raw aesthetic that reflects the crime genre and is complemented well by the urban landscape of Chicago. The visual elements of the series have a utilitarian style and avoid stylized designs altogether, showing a realistic view of Neagley's mission. Dialogue throughout the series is brief and precise and shows the character’s pragmatism. Each line does showcase the character's importance to the case and the progression of the investigation.

This means that for these characters and storylines, you won't get sudden, dramatic, explosive moments that happen in films. And while this show focuses on Neagley, there are some drawbacks with that. While Neagley is the focus, her co-stars Greyston Holt and Adeline Rudolph have less defined characters. This means the supporting actors all use less of their potential because of the Neagley focus. This means the supporting actors are less interesting, and Neagley carries the burden of the story and the feelings of the viewers.

Sound is a huge building block of the world, and audio is equally important. The atmosphere that sound builds is missing in a PC monitor. The series relies on an excellent sound and audio system.

‘Neagley’ is a safe bet for Moviebox with plenty of positive critical reception and moderately positive audience reception. It’s a pretty solid example of quality genre TV. It delivers on its promises, though users should note it’s fairly slow and methodical. Personally I think the slower pace actually adds a great deal of atmosphere so I'm a big fan of this series. However, users should note this series is very slow. This is more of a slow burn crime drama with fairly methodical pacing. For those looking for a fast crime drama with quick action this is probably not your pick. This is a solid series for slow crime drama enthusiasts, though.
